Day 19 of Countdown to Oliver: Prepare Baby’s Space

During the first three months, often referred to as a baby’s fourth trimester because they are still so dependent on their mother, we do a type of “co-sleeping.” The baby doesn’t sleep in the same bed as us, but in a Pack ‘n Play with a newborn sleeper and changing station attached. We place it right next to the bed. It’s extremely beneficial, and way more convenient for breastfeeding.

So, setting up the baby’s space, for now, will just be in our room next to our bed. I’ll keep it simplistic, neat and possibly hang a cute name sign or picture over the sleeper in the near future.

Helpful info on the fourth trimester (first three months) and sleeping near baby:

  • Life in the Fourth Trimester
  • Scientific Benefits of Co-SleepingCo-sleeping can mean sleeping in the same bed or sleeping next to/near the parent(s). I don’t/rarely do same-bed co-sleeping, because I always worry about the chance of smothering. I do, however, believe having a newborn sleep right next to their parent(s), in the same room for at least the first three months, is very beneficial. It’s also WAY more convenient when breastfeeding.

I received an awesome “Oliver” banner from “Auntie” Allegra that I decided to hang above our pack n’ play while the babe sleeps in our room. It’s stylish and light weight, so I don’t have to worry about it falling! Oliver Sign
